LIVING AND WINNING WITH DIABETES
Orione Constellation
by Davide Roso

ISBN 88-7418-156-6
Pages 172
Euro 10,00
Collection Orione Constellation 9

“Living and winning with diabetes”, is a book that everybody should read. Because this is a book written by a diabetic for everybody, especially for those that do not know diabetes and have prejudices. But this is also a book for diabetics who have to face this illness with serenity and determination.

There are several books on diabetes written by specialists, but few of them written by diabetics, by those people that live this experience. Davide's book is one of these. It is important for diabetics to read how one of them lives and faces his own situation, but it is even more important for doctors to read how diabetics feel their “trouble.”
This is not only a book on diabetes, first of all it is a hymn to life, a laude to man that in our pragmatic times , humanistically speaking, goes back to the centre of the cosmos.
Dr. Francis Calcaterra

One day Davide said that he wanted to write a book on diabetes; he asked my help: he wanted to meet and get to know other boys that like him shared the same illness.
It seemed to me a magnificent idea, but it was not easy to find boys and adults that talked of their own experiences.
After some time this sincere book was born. It is real, interesting and sometimes ironic.

Dr. Marina Miola

CHRISTIANITY AND GNOSTICISM
Orione Constellation

Collection Orione Constellation 13

In the 1st century AD, the apostles of a crucified Jew called Jesus the Anointed one, who is the Messiah from the Hebrew and the Christ from the Greek, report that he has risen again in body and soul, and that means that he is not only a man, but also a divinity. The apostles are not elitist, they affirm that thanks to Christ, all human beings can have the eternal Life, that their material and psychic body will be transformed, rising again, in glory and spirit, like Jesus did: on the condition that they follow his example of love and trust him. They try to spread the magnificent news of Resurrection everywhere; but a lot of Jews and Romans do not like this and the apostles are killed in horrible ways. The pre existing Gnosticism, a doctrine deriving from Greek philosophy and theosophy and from promises of redemption of oriental, Jewish, Egyptians, mystical-astrological-magic religions, always curious about novelties, is interested in Christianity and many gnostics convert themselves: they say that true Christianity is theirs and that the resurrection of the body is not possible; moreover they keep on insisting, that only the believers can enter heaven. From that time the diatribes will never stop between Gnostics and Christians.
But…are the latter really like that? According to some researchers, Real Christianity is derived from Gnosticism.

“2000 years of challenge” is the third author’s book in a trilogy on Christianity, including “Jesus, born in 6 a.c., crucified in 30 – An historical approach to Christianity” (1997) and his “Eternal Life, essay on the immortality between God and man” (1998), works published in 2003 by Prospettiva editrice. The trilogy is for both Christians and believers of other religions and atheists.

INTIFADA
Contemporary Arabic poetry
Flowers
Edited by Mohammed Lamsuni

Anthology of the most important contemporary Arabic poets.

ISBN 88-7418-125-6
Pages 150
Collection Flowers 4
Euro 8,00

This anthology is proposed to introduce intifada poetry, the protagonists of a revolution of how to understand poetry in the Arabic world.
Intifada poetry has forced the Arabs to reconsider what they meant by poetry, to amplify the sense of the word, that corresponds to a great thematic freedom and to an irregular metric scheme or none.

The title of the anthology does not refer to any of the Arabic political and military circumstances. “Intifada “stands for shaking and its linguistic root is intafada, that is to be shaken, to be dusted, to shake oneself off. The theme of these works, like in the whole modern Arabic poetry, is this shaking, is this renewal of each structure of the language that tends to be resistant to every modification.

From this book Roberto Benigni has drawn a poem for his next film.

FRAME

Pages. 132
Euro 10,32
Collection Territori 1

An essay that introduces the greatest artists of the world through the study of their frames.

The frame for many painters is a way to propose their own consideration of the picture, of the place of exhibition, of the role of the artist, of the public, of the society, of the world. Through a subdivision in chapters, the text discovers which frame was used by other painters, such as the Pre-Raphaelites, impressionists like Degas, Whistler, Van Gogh, Pissarro, Seurat; the exponents of the Viennese Secession like Franz von Stuck and Gustav Klimt, or contemporary painters like Mondrian, Balla, Segal, Van Doesburg, Magritte, Dalì, Duchamp, Picabia, Picasso, Braque, Buren, De Maria, Long. The author also considers two other essential aspects connected to the theme of the frame, that is the philosophical aspect and the handicraft one. She examines both how the frame is a philosophical matter developed by some thinkers like George Rimmel and Ortega y Gasset, and how it is also an object of study and work for artisans. To introduce this last aspect she lists the main styles of the frame in the different historical periods and, moreover explains the techniques for the production and the maintenance of the wooden frames. The book in its originality shows various curious photographic images that offer a complete vision of canvas and frame (a rarity that cannot be found in the majority of books of history of art). This volume is the first publication which proposes the theme of the frame as pertinent subject to the world of history of art and for philosophy and craftsmanship.

THE ETERNAL LIFE

Theological study.

Maybe, in the future, the Church will re-formulate, on the same essence of faith, the words of the Creed and the catechism, underlining even more endless God-joy and clarifying that He wants us happy in Heaven, but also on earth: daily happiness whose realisation depends on us, loving each other, contributing to the construction of the mythical Eden. Everybody is seeking joy; but today so many think to find it in possession, in physical pleasure, in dominating, and stressing themselves and (sometimes because all these they die??). In this essay, that is not catechism but a hymn to happiness in the respect for believers of other religions, the author tries to make some aspects of Christianity clear: a work that will probably surprise many of you.

“Assertion like these are read and heard: “Jesus? A myth like Osiris!” “Jesus was only a good rabbi”, “Jesus was a quack: it was Paul who invented Christianity.” “Without Plato there would have been no Christianity”, “The historical Jesus is not the Christ of the faith”, “The New Testament dates back to the II or the III century: It does not have the value of document”, " Christianity was founded on the 10 Commandments”, “What an ignorance! The Comet star on the hut of the Nativity would have destroyed the world!”, “Surely the Buddhism doesn't have the naivety of Christianity”, “Confucius said first not to hurt other people if we don't want to be hurt!”, “All the religions are alike". In this historical approach to Christianity, Guido Paglierino rationally replies back to those observations, with a new approach for most Christians.”

Andrej Belyj is one of the most interesting and less known characters of the Russian literary panorama.

He embodies all the devastating contradictions of a country like Russia, that feels its responsibility to conduct the world to a new way of living, changing the social and personal destiny of its people and tracing important steps in the path of history.
He is so fearfully human, selfish, traitor and unreliable…
The memoirs of the Cvetaeva and the Odoevceva, so full of sincerity and admiration for this extraordinary misunderstood and fleeing genius, are essential to penetrate the mystery of the poet.

Ferruccio Martinetto, was born in Turin the 7th August 1968, graduated in 1995 in Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Turin. In the same year he won a scholarship financed by the Turin Town Hall thanks to the translations of the Russian poets of the Silver century and was recognised among the best 15 young poets of Turin and province. In 1997 he published for Paoline Editions the translation L. N. Tolstoj’s “Master and servant.” In the same year he participated in the translation of L. Tolstoj’s essay “Walk in the light as long as there is light.” From 1995 up today he has published translations of Majakovskij, Gumilev, Saltykov-Scedrin, Severianin and other poets of the Russian Silver century, on magazines like “The Majakovskij”, “Slavia”, “The story”, “Astolfo.” In 2003 he published, for the Florentine publisher “Clinamen”, the translation of the Cloud in pants by Majakovskij and, for the publisher “Prospettiva”, an essay on Andrei Belyj.

An unique and rare essay about an unknown story of the Second World war.

This book is about the use of Brazilian soldiers during the campaign of Italy between 1944 and 1945.

Brazil, after declaring war to the countries of the Axis, sent to Italy, pushed by the United States of America, a contingent of twenty five thousand soldiers. The Força Expedicionaria Brasileira fought in Tuscany in September 1944 occupying Camaiore and the Valley of Serchio, and freed the buttress of Castelnuovo, Garfagnana, and liberated in October of the same year, Barga and Gallicano.
The following month the Brazilians garrisoned the front of Porretta Terme. In this sector the FEB suffered a hard defeat of Mountain Castle, managing however in the spring of 1945 to break the line of the front and contributing with the Allied forces to unite again Italy.

For many readers the war in the Pacific is the theatre of major events, like the attack on Pearl Harbour or the Battle of Midway .
Actually during those long years there were a lot of clashes from both sides and many vessels were destroyed.
The fate of many of these was mysterious, or the information was not complete.
This essay tries to investigate about these little known facts dealing with the last information on every vessel to explain what really happened.

A study on the most debated contemporary French philosopher, member of the French communist party (later expelled).

"Garaudy's study corresponds, to the dawn of the new century and the new millennium, to the demand of the current society to rediscover the sense and the importance of assuming pluralism (in our way of describing what the world is like, in the ways of prescribing how it should be and how to change it) not only as a fact but also as a value, in the attempt to propose at least a sketch of a human society different and better, overcoming together the dangers that threaten entire humanity..."

Massimo Maugliani was born in Tivoli (RM).
He graduated in History of Contemporary Philosophy at the University of Studies "Rome 3" in Rome. In collaboration, he ran an activity of research on the theme "The experience of the villages of workers in Italy” in Political Philosophy.

An essay, proposed by an officer of the Italian Army specialized in international affairs, who discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the integration of Turkey in Europe.

The Council of Europe, the 19th of May 2003 has published the decision on the principles, on the priorities, on the objectives and conditions of the partnership for the adhesion of Turkey to the European Union.
The problems to be resolved are the respect of the human rights and the minorities, the role of the soldiers inside the country, an economy of competitive market.
Now the decision on the integration is up to the Turks?
But do they share the same European roots?
Can liberalizing thought prevail in the European cultural identity? Which Europe are we creating?
Is Turkey a great strategic opportunity or a "Trojan horse" that will bring unknown problems to Europe?
